Extreme Snowboarding
Stoked Rider is a snowboarding game with realistic physics (using Ageia's PhysX engine)--including fluid simulation and avalanches. You roam over a huge space--64 square kilometers of procedurally-created Alaskan moutains. No ski slopes, in other words--just you and the mountain.
Mouse motions are used to steer, with the WASD keys to lean, providing excellent control of your board. (Controls can be mapped to keys if you prefer, and game controllers are supported.)
You can board anywhere in the game-space--using either a helicopter to land anywhere you choose, or hiking to a starting spot.
All in all, a truly impressive effort by a small team.
(Oh, and what's "alien" doing in the title? Instead of playing a human, you can play an "alien" who has a jetpack--allowing some outrageous stunts. A little odd, but fun.)
The Developer Says:
64 square kilometers of Alaska mountains
No parks and no pipes - leave the kid's stuff at home and bring your impact-protection gear.
It's you against the mountain, avoid falling at all costs.
The Stoked Rider series is all about huge outdoor-scenarios as a playground for various kinds of action/extreme-sports. The main design-goal in terms of game-mechanics are on providing a short paced and fun game-play experience with endless replay value guaranteeing the player coming back to the game regularly.
This is the 4th title of the Stoked Rider series. In terms of positioning this title has opened the new category of Big Mountain Snowboarding games. This means a no for freestyle, half-pipes and quirky snowboarder attitude. In contrast it’s a deadly serious you-against-the-mountain scenario, where the goal of the game is to basically get down in one piece from high peaks based in a huge procedurally created mountain-area.
