Gibbage

That's Gibbage as in "gibs," from "giblets"--the body parts strewn across the screen in FPS games like Doom and Quake.

Gibbage is a truly odd and heart-warmingly gory game that combines the mechanics of retro platformers with the aesthetic of the modern first-person shooter. The graphics are cartoony, and would not look amiss on a NES or pre-CD-ROM PC; the gameplay is deathmatch shooting madness. Your avatar runs and leaps about, gathering powerups and dispatching your foe with massive firepower, a 3D game's gibs replaced with pixellated blood.

While the single-player game is entertaining, Gibbage shines as a multiplayer game--yes, you and a friend sitting together at the PC, each with one hand on opposite sites of the keyboard whacking away.

Nothing quite like this blood-drenched weirdness anywhere else...

Dan says:

Gibbage is a two-player cartoon Deathmatch game, set over 27 varied arenas, including zombie-infested hospitals, atop speeding trains and inside alien beasts.

Features:

  • Hi-Octane Single or Two-Player Hijinks!

  • What more could you possibly want for $10?

The Ethos behind Gibbage

Gibbage is an Independent Video Game. It was born out of frustration at mainstream titles that had me shooting endless men in the head in a corridor with a pistol. I was fed up.

When I was a kid, games were about fun. About enjoyment. About having a friend over to play, chuckling at each other's ineptitude and laughing so hard that a little bit of wee came out.

That’s what Gibbage is all about. I know there's a single-player option, but you shouldn't be using it. Not really. Gibbage is a two-player game, and you should treat it as such. Make a friend. Play together. Trust me: it's how Gibbage really comes alive, and you'll get to experience the game I've written in all its glory.

Funnage Incarnate

In an indie market thats becoming less and less about diversity and originality and more about who can reproduce the latest puzzler to hit the top of the portal charts, its refreshing to know that out there, just beyond the horizon there's someone else who feels the same way about games as you do.

The days of 2 players huddling over a computer were something I thought long gone outside of Scorched Earth or Worms clones, and Gibbage thankfully, brings back the old competitive spirit once present in droves in the 8 bit days and drags it by the lug holes into 21st century via the medium of the deathmatch...but in 2d! 2d! Whatever happened to 2d?

Yes, there may be no beautifully arranged renders in Gibbage, but then - aside from a bit of spit and polish, what possible benefit would it offer when whilst by no means the best sprites in the world, Gibbage is so full of character and charm (and guts, don't forget the guts...or the severed heads... severed heads are good) that you just won't care if its the most luscious game on the planet or not.

Not when its this much fun.

Whilst Gibbage really shines in 2 player mode, ploughing your way through the 1 player against the computer is a barrel of fun also. And to top it off, its got the theme music from a spy film that never was.

Great fun, and a great laugh and one of the few indie games of recent times I've come back to over and over.
