ETROM crash from game start to bios

I'd remembered enjoying the demo of this game months ago, but that was before reinstalling XP, so the conditions I had then were not what I have now. I've paid for ETROM now but I can't play it. The game crashes consistently when the red progress bar reaches a point between a third and 40% of completion. The crash reboots my system: each time I've started ETROM I ended with my BIOS screen.

I went to www.etrom.net, which offers a patch for the retail version but tells me to look elsewhere for digital delivery version. I'm going to look at Direct2Drive and TotalGaming.net for the patch, but I feel I ought to inform the community here. Assuming I didn't download the 1.1 version from here today, and this new version solves this crashing bug, then Manifesto ought to update their library.

I love and respect Manifesto, so I know you know how important this is.

Edit: After downloading the 1.1 patch from Direct2Drive, the patch installer has given me the error "The setup has detected that no version of ETROM - The Astral Essence is installed." So I'm feeling a bit non-plussed. I could try reinstalling XP, which might solve my problem, but I don't care to take on that project right away.

Edit: Discretion is the better part of valor. I've chosen not to pursue a resolution to my technical problem and accept a refund. I may try running the Etrom demo another day.
