ABOUT POSITECH GAMES
Positech Games is a one man company based in the UK (England). It was formed by gaming geek Cliff Harris in 1997 when he was working as an IT support guy. Cliff has been writing and selling games for 8 years now. Cliff does ALL the programming and 90% of the art for his games. He also handles all the tech support, web design and marketing of the games. Yup, Cliff works pretty darned hard. He also has to contend with his highly demanding cats Jadzia and Tobin* during his working day.
Cliff Used to work for a UK company called Elixir, who did Republic and Evil Genius. He left before they went bust. After that he worked at Lionhead as an AI / Game coder for 'The Movies' When that game finished he left to work for himself fulltime. At the start of 2006, Cliff worked for Maxis on a 'gameplay prototype' for the 'Sims' franchise. He is now working on an original 'life sim' game.Buy his games quickly, Cliff has bills to pay!
WHY BUY A GAME FROM US?
Because they are fun! That's the best reason. Some of our games sell pretty well considering you probably haven't heard of us. You can buy Starship Tycoon in WalMart in the USA and in various stores across Russia. As a small company, we don't have much of an advertising budget, but you will find our games just as much fun as some bigger titles you have seen hyped to death. FREE DEMOS
ALL of our games have a free demo. have you noticed the trend in games lately to NOT offer a demo? this is more and more common. This is because the developers of these games want you to buy their product based on hype, not the quality of the game. What have they got to lose by showing you a demo? Not only do all of our games have demos, we actively encourage you to play the demo first before ordering. You won't be disappointed, and you will be sure the game runs fine on your system. Unlike other games, our demos are quick to download, they are all under 10 MB.
REGULAR UPDATES
We are often releasing new versions of our games. Not just bug fixes, but often new features or better artwork. This doesn't cost you a bean. Starship Tycoon was originally on sale in 1998 (under a different name). We released a new version as recently as November 2004 (build 2.28). We also listen to the feedback we get on our games, we have added features directly as a result of players suggestions.
TECH SUPPORT
We don't have a 24/7 team of people answering the phones, but we have one BIG advantage. If you email a tech support query, the guy answering (me) is the guy who coded the game. There is nobody who can fix problems in my games quicker than me. And without a big corporate legal structure, I can release a patch to fix bugs when I want to. My record is 2 hours from a player reporting a bug to me updating the game and releasing a new version. I WANT people to report bugs to me, it helps me improve the stability of my games.
NO CORPORATE NONSENSE
*challenge everything!*. Sound familiar? I won't bombard my customers with pointless patronizing logos, or tedious intro movies. You want to play a game, not watch some adverts right? It goes without saying that my games are free of spy ware. There are NO bundled applications hidden inside my games (and we get a LOT of offers to do that!). If you buy our games, you don't go on any email lists for future marketing. We would NEVER sell your personal information. We don't have any product placement or other corporate nonsense in our games.
INDEPENDENCE
Positech games has 2 shares and I own them both ;) We make all our games 100% up front, self-funded, THEN we look for a publisher. Nobody vets our design ideas, nobody tells us how to make our games. This is a big contrast to the BIG games companies, where design is done in a boardroom by a bunch of accountants. If you are looking for innovation and new types of game, forget the likes of EA and Sony, look to 1 man companies like mine!
