In a fit of nostalgia, we've thrown up the Zork games--the ones that use the z-machine, at any event. Check them out here:
All four are playable in-browser, using a Java applet that interprets the original z-machine files. To play in-browser, you will need Java installed on your machine; if it isn't, you can get it here. One drawback, though; Java's sandbox model doesn't allow you to save data, so you won't be able to save your game.
If you want to do that, you can download a z-machine interpreter for your computer (page provides links to good ones for PCs, Macs, and -nix machines), and then download the z-machine file for each game (links provided on the game's page).
Incidentally, over time, we expect to be adding some of the better IF titles to the site, both z-machine and otherwise.
I'd heard about Zork for years, but only started recently playing them. So it's funny when people talk about nostalgia; when all I see is classic gameplay. Anyways, thanks for hosting those Greg! I look forward to seeing more IF here.
Great! Hosting more IF titles is a very nice idea! I recently played an interesting one called LASH (a bit postapocalyptic, centered around 19th century slavery, though.)
Nostalgia...gooooooooood.
