Infocom, based in the Boston area, was one of the seminal companies in the formation of the computer game industry. Among the designers who contributed to its products are Steve Meretzky and Brian Moriarty, who are supporters of Manifesto Games. Wikipedia's entry on Infocom can be found here.

Each of the game links below allow you to play the game directly--but you have Java installed on your computer. If not, click here to download it.

Caveat: If playing in Java, you cannot save your progress. This can be irritating, as these games can take a while to play. Alternatively, follow the instructions below.

To Play the Games Directly From Your Computer

All of these games were implemented using what's called the "z-machine." The files that define them can be interpreted and displayed to you by another application that understands z-machine files.

Here are the z-machine interpreters we recommned:

Once you have installed the relevant application, click the "game file" link on the game page, and dowload the game file to the same directory as the application. Start the application, navigate to that game file, and open. You will be able to save progress to your computer.

Note: We've haven't done a lot of testing ourselves. If you have problems, please let customerservice -at- manifestogames -dot- com know, and tell us what kind of computer and browser you're using.

Another Note: There are z-machine interpreters for many devices other than PCs, Macs, and -nix devices. If you have one, try here.
