the EA execs give another proof of their awesome genius. this time, they have come to join the club of the videogame-sex-scandal-marketing. wow. those guy absolutely deserve their suits.

before talking about their awesomely brilliant move, lets take a few seconds to think on the people who may swallow this crap. if one of you, is reading this, hey, you should thank me, am thinking on you. ok, continue now.

sex-scandal-marketing is becoming a common thing. so much that I wonder if it is already part of some high level course inside prestigious academic institutions, in the science of business.

but this time, as accustomed to innovate as they are, the EA minds have come up with an innovative melodramatic storyline. about kolton Mahoney, 14, the guy witch was morally damaged in the incident. and the good benevolent american family, the mahoneys, which didn’t sued EA. but instead, asked for a guarantee that this abomination won’t happen again.

weren’t for the other stroke of genius from the month, the leaked saddam hanging video, the EA move would stand easily to the best of the year. I am convinced that we need some way to show our recognition to these genius. the money isn't enough. maybe we need a new nobel prize category. or some kind kind of prestigious new prize, with a big, resounding name. to reward this superb talent.

we all should stand up, and rejoice, about the stellars minds that drive the videogame industry. am convinced now. these guys are mad geniuses.

Hey, there's a thought...the Mannies! The Manifesto awards for achievement of outstanding excellence in the videogame industry. The first lifetime achievement award goes to Jack Thompson, naturally.

The award for outstanding achievement in monetizing gaming should be called the Visa Crucible (go ahead and steal it from Penny Arcade...they won't mind), and the 2006 award should go to the exec that proposed charging users for tutorial levels. I thought about awarding it to the EA game that offers cheat codes for purchase, but then I realized, I started gaming in BCC, Before Cheat Codes. I never saw cheat codes until I bought the strategy guide for Wing Commander II. If charging for cheat codes can return gaming to BCC environs, then I'm for it.

What other categories should mannies be awarded for?

Outstanding achievement in sequel numbers? (Nom: Final Fantasy)
Excellence in title word coinage? (Nom: Viewtiful Joe)
Most imaginative use of adjectives in a title? (nom: Guilty Gear)

I'd like to see this be an annual thing...

Ahh, I like silly awards for daft stuff. A fanzine for my favourite football club (er, soccer to most people here I guess) used to have the BAFTAS; The Buckley Award For Talking Absolute Shite.

On second thoughts, unless you know English football well, that will mean bugger all to everyone, even if you did know who Alan Buckley is....
