Most of the games here are dependent on shareware/demos to get people to try them out. From this pea-brained consumer's perspective, I would assume that the people making the games are probably a lot more familiar with the shareware software scene on the internet and might be able to point the rest of us towards some of their favorite shareware software. I think of it as a sort of "we [you] are all in this boat together" situation for shareware authors.
I obviously don't know anything about marketing or industry (I'm a lib arts student who likes languages--I nearly failed econ in high school), but I imagine that it is harder nowadays to market shareware software than it was back when shareware was having its heyday. Having a section might just help developers out a little bit more, and for others' sake, it would help us sift through all the dozens of programs to find the really good ones worth buying.
Name recognition drives sales to some large extent, but when faced with a lot of names that are all equally unfamiliar, it's hard to decide what to start with. Usually I get left looking for reviews on some seedy adversite that hasn't updated in five years and a moon's orbit.
This is probably totally beyond the scope of the site and your time resources, but it may be some long-term food for thought. And referrals probably couldn't hurt from the economic perspective.
