Within a Deep Forest

This is perhaps slightly outside of the purview of this website, but I'd like to draw your attention to Within a Deep Forest, a fun, free, entertaining indie platformer.

The game centers around an animate ball, seeking to save the world from the Evil Dr. Cliche and his giant ice bomb. It's played on a Metroid-esque map; as you explore the Deep Forest that the game takes it's title from, you'll find passageways to new areas that you can explore to win more 'materials'. Different materials give your ball different properties; some bounce higher while others have more mass.

Although it's freeware, it's surprisingly well-polished; the graphics and sound are relatively simple but they're clean and get the job done. There's a lot of 'ambient' activity throughout the game; as you explore these various areas, you'll encounter many of their inhabitants going about their business apparently unaware of your presence.

It's certainly worth a look and I think it'd be a nice addition alongside Nethack and Endless Fire.
