markup text in forum posts

I posted a bug in the appropriate forum, but the bug page returned to me contained some XML markup that was interpreted by the posting routine. There's no option to submit a plain text post, which I assume is a design consideration on your guys' part, since that's been a basic feature since like v2 of the slashcode, at least, so I assume everybody offers the option.

If you don't want to enable a plain text posting option, which is groovy by me, it's your site, could you at least offer a markup tag which instructs the posting routine to not interpret or hide any angle bracketed markup?
