I Dloaded the demo and had a few goes - it's fun and smooth...
only thing is -
I can't find any detailed info on the difference between demo and full versions...
it says "more aliens" and stuff near the "buy" button, but can anyone tell me something more detailed than that?

Here's the skinny.

The demo version of SAIS features:

* fixed (non-random) starmaps
* 8 different ship types
* 29 different weapons, drives, shields, gadgets and artifacts
* 6 alien lifeforms
* 17 different planet and star types
* 2 unique alien races

The full version of SAIS features:

* random starmaps so each game is different
* 21 different ship types
* 69 different weapons, drives, shields, gadgets and artifacts
* 18 alien lifeforms
* 17 different planet and star types
* 7 unique alien races

Oops, I forgot to mention (and this is not documented) that the full version of SAIS also features a special rare encounter not included in the demo --but I'm not going to spoil it other than to say that when it happens, you'll be very afraid.
