Currently it be looking somewhat out of place.
I suggest that its background match that of the rest of the site.
As well I would suggest trimming it down to size.
For the rest of the length I suggest employing a NUKE-form of features such as current online member list (never underestimate the power of community-features/socializing!), some important quick links (such as news, high-profile announcements, etc.) and so on and so forth.
