Distinctive, Surrealistic, Serene (and at $7, a bargain)
Some games, like Myst, feel like art because of the nature of their audio and visuals. Kalimée is of this type. The visuals are simple, but nicely textured 3D, and inspired by the surrealist painting of Salvador Dali; the music is excellent and peaceful ambient techno.
Each of the 18 levels is a different 3D environment, and each poses a unique series of puzzles. Text introduces you to the level and gives hints on the solution--but particularly in the later and more complex puzzles, you may have to hunt around and experiment before you understand how to reach the solution. There are no "hunt the pixel" problems here, however; the game is playable entirely with the mouse (well, you need to hit 'm' to exit or save), and clickable objects are large enough to prevent obscurity.
Although it's a very different game, Kalimée evokes some of the same emotions as Cloud--that is, peacefulness and serenity. On the whole, a distinctive and impressive art game.
The game is playable in French and Italian as well as English.
The Developer Says:
Kalimée is a game melding Art, Puzzles, Arcade, guessing and FPS gaming.
I've been coding this game from more than 2 years now, and I finally got something I was proud of.
Kalimée is a game where the player has as long as he wants to play. You NEED to read the instructions at the beginning of each level if you want to avoid feeling lost.
Once in the game you will be asked to solve different guess puzzles, logical puzzles, arcade games, action games, translate unknown languages & much more... I just created a world where the player can have a walk & dream...
Each level has until 4 different musics (FULL version)...& each loading screen is different from the others.
You'll also find some cinematics that will you drive in the game & when you finally obtain the main Menu (3d level) you will also be able to get bonus features, allowed to play separate mini games unlocked while walking through the levels...
As I've said, it's a game that cannot be explained but must be experienced...
Have a look & tell me what you think...
Reviews
"Described as a 'surrealistic puzzle game' you are taken through a series of tasks, each slightly more complex than the first, that challenge various aspects of your being - from your patience, to your dexterity, to your mental agility. Each game section is woven together with nicely rendered full-screen FMV sequences that bring the world of Kalimee alive."

Updated Installer
Some users reported that when trying to start Kalimee, they got an error message, and the game failed to start.
We've rebuilt the installer so that this problem should no longer happen.
Technical details, in case you're interested: Each time Microsoft updated DirectX 9, they included a new version of the DirectX dll, each time with a new filename. However, when you update DirectX, it by default includes only the most recent version of the dll. An application that calls for a specifically-named dll will fail--even though Windows will tell you that your version of DirectX is "up to date." The simple fix is to include the dll with the game's installer, so that if not already present on the user's hard drive, it is installed at the same time as the game. Kalimee now does this.
