Jets'n'Guns

Pulse-pounding Space Shooter for Serious Shmuppers

N.B.: You might prefer Jets'n'Guns Gold--$10 more, but almost double the levels and length of play of the original game.

We carry a lot of space shooters of various types, and it's easy to get blase about them sometimes--but at other times, you fire up a game and think "holy crap." Jets'n'Guns is a side-scrolling, Xevious-like game with loud, excellent music from alt-rock band Machinae Supremacy, nice eye-candy, and a huge number of upgrades for your ship, including fifty-something weapon types. It's not for the faint of heart, though; even if you crank the difficulty down, it's a tough game to beat. It's exceptionally well done, though, as the reviews bear out...

The Developer Says

A marvelous piece of classic arcade symphony of colors, action and sophisticated art of destruction! Get your boots ready and smell the gasoline being refueled into your spaceship. Get back in history and say hello to good old-fashioned villains who got new power-toys to tear down the world as we know it!

Ok. But seriously. Jets'n'Guns is a heavy piece of ground shaking rock blasting action dressed in full metal jacket colored to kill in graphics that will blow your eyes out!

Enjoy yourself in almost-insane-action of saving the universe from the deadly threat of twelve masters of destruction in the quest of 21 levels! Stand as one-against-many armed with fifty different pieces of classy armament fitted tightly to a swish body of only yours spaceship!

Get up from your couch and kick ass! Jets'n'Guns are designed in RakeX 2.0 engine which will reveal the possibilities of your graphic card and equipped with original soundtrack from Machinae Supremacy that will squeeze the best from your speakers.

Get your guns loaded and experience the ecstasy of pure arcade action! Jets'n'Guns are far beyond the average of the genre. The game as Jets'n'Guns is more than an average action. It is a quest for the liberation of the universe!

Stylish and over the top in just the right ways

Mostly, I can just second what the other reviews have said. Jets'N'Guns is a terrific Schmup with a really good ship upgrading system, frantic gameplay that should still be manageable for more casual gamers on easy, and a just-right amount of over the top style. There are weapons and ship parts galore, and one can spend hours exploring different weapon systems and combinations thereof (one fantastic design decision: you buy *and* sell at item cost, which makes experimentation easy).

It's a game that can be challenging and forgiving all at once (the ship comes with ample hitpoints and there are a number of defensive upgrades which you'll need in the 21 levels of the original game campaign).

I am not a Shmup fan.... but I keep playing this! :)

I don't consider myself a shoot-em-up fan.

I am addicted to Jets'n'Guns.

Most such shooters rapidly bore me - hold down the fire button, jerk the mouse around, watch the bright lights, get overwhelmed because I don't have the reflexes of a weasel on speed, get fed up, go find a nice RPG or strategy game....

Jets'n'Guns takes finely honed gameplay - the easiest level is about the right challenge threshold for a schmuck like me, tickling the part of my brain that wants big explosions, without geting too fast for me to think -- and combines it with an excellent advancement mechanic that lets me play extensively with upgrading my ship to maximize firepower, mobility, and protection within the constraint of cash available. That advancement mechanic tickles the RPG/strategy game side of my head. Combine the whole with a solid dose of tongue in cheek humor and you've got a shmup that keeps a non-shmupper hooked.

I find myself mulling over ship configurations on the way to work.

I just bought the expansion pack.

So.... even if you don't like shmups, give this one a try. :)

So Fu*king Metal

A shooter with RPG advancement mechanics and, get this, personality, Jets and Guns is the riff ripping explosionary wargasm shmup fans have been waiting for. The demo design doesn't do justice to pleasures of the advancement mechanics, if I were the developer I'd retool it on a time based scheme instead of the stilted set-up currently available. Once you start tricking out your ship with bombastically optimized weapon suites, you'll forget you ever played R-type. Its like that old (1999 old) TI-83 game, phoenix, but fleshed out with smooth animations, a trough of missions, an awesomely ludicrous story and money bonuses for splattering all sorts of blood around. A genre topped out.
